Explore the countryside around Groombridge
Groombridge sits on the Kent and East Sussex border, with old railway paths, woodland, and sandstone rocks within easy reach of Station Road. Distances and times below are from the linked guides — always check the latest advice before you set out.
Forest Way
A traffic-free country park path along the old railway through Forest Row, Hartfield and Withyham to Groombridge. Walk or cycle out-and-back from the village, or plan a one-way trip with a return by other means. The surfaced track is popular with many users; conditions and facilities are described on the council pages.
Birchden Wood circular
A pleasant circular through countryside and Birchden Wood, about 3.4 miles and usually 1½–2 hours. There are road sections, and paths can be muddy after rain. Harrison’s Rocks, the sandstone climbing area next to the woods, is a popular nearby sight.
Tunbridge Wells Circular Walk
An official circular around Tunbridge Wells with waymarked sections you can tackle as shorter days. Use the Visit Tunbridge Wells maps and guides for the current leaflets and section distances.
Groombridge to Ashurst
Kent Ramblers describe a circular from the Station Road car park linking the River Grom, Groombridge Place, Burrswood, the Medway and the Forest Way. Treat estate drives and grounds access as changeable: Burrswood drives are not recorded rights of way, and the estate arrangement changed around 2020 — the Ramblers notes include an alternative via Bird in Hand Street. Read the current write-up before you go.
Spa Valley Railway & Groombridge Station
Groombridge Station is a short walk up Station Road and the starting point for heritage steam and diesel services on the Spa Valley Railway. From the village you can also reach walks toward Harrison’s Rocks and the Forest Way. Check the official timetable for running days — services and fares change through the year.
